Delhi: Accused of gangrape with a minor girl who came to the park with her friend, the main accused got shot during the encounter.

A case of gang rape of a 17-year-old minor girl has come to light in Aastha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Temple in South Delhi.

The police have arrested the main accused after an encounter. Police officials gave this information on Tuesday. The arrested accused has been identified as Asif.

News agency PTI quoted the police as saying, when the police team tried to surround the accused near DM Office Road of Amar Colony police station area, he fired three rounds at the police team.

During the exchange of fire, a bullet hit the bullet-proof jacket of head constable Rajesh. After this, in self-defence, the head constable retaliated by firing two rounds, one of which hit the right leg of accused Asif. The injured accused was immediately admitted to AIIMS Trauma Center for treatment.

According to the information received by the police, on Monday evening a 17 year old minor had come to visit Kalkaji temple with her 17 year old friend.

On the rape case, Joint CP Southern Range Vijay Kumar said, "The boy and the girl first went to the temple and then to Aastha Kunj Park. Three people came to them and introduced themselves as policemen."

"They spoke in the language of police and lawyers and said that you are a minor, you are doing something wrong and a case can be registered against you. After this they caught hold of the boy and took turns raping the girl."

According to Joint CP, a complaint has been received from the girl's side and her medical test has been done.

An FIR has been registered at Amar Colony police station under sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and POCSO Act.

The police had formed several teams to search for the accused. Meanwhile, after receiving secret information about Asif's activities, a trap was laid in Amar Colony to catch him.

However, while arresting him, there was an encounter and crime and FSL teams have been called to the spot.

At present the police is busy searching for the other two absconding accused.

Joint CP Southern Range Vijay Kumar said, "One accused Asif was caught early this morning after a police encounter. The remaining accused will also be arrested soon and further action will be taken."

Delhi has ranked first among 19 metros across the country in terms of crimes against women.

According to the 'Crime in India 2024' report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Delhi has also recorded the highest figures for several categories of crimes such as rape, kidnapping and dowry deaths.

According to the report, a total of 13,396 cases of crimes against women were registered in the year 2024 alone. A total of 1,058 cases of rape were reported in these, which is the highest compared to other metros.

NCRB's report for the year 2025 has not been released yet.
