"How far can you run if you lose one leg?" Shen Liqian, a 23-year-old young man, was born with a rare disease, which resulted in the amputation of a blackened right leg. Under the loving embrace of her parents, she wore a prosthetic leg since she was a child. By chance, an eagle broke into her life. She began "falcon training" and took the courage to go to hundreds of campuses with the eagle for 10 years to provide life education. Today (30th), she was awarded the 64th Top Ten Outstanding Youth.
The "64th Ten Outstanding Young People" organized by the International Youth Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China announced the list today. Vice President Hsiao Meiqin served as the chairperson of the Ten Outstanding Jury Committee. She said in her speech that the Youth Chamber of Commerce has continued to promote the selection of the Ten Outstanding Young People for more than 60 years and discovered countless outstanding young people for Taiwanese society. The energy of each candidate is a mirror, reflecting the precious "resilience" and "innovation" characteristics of Taiwanese society, and seeing the young generation display flexibility, unity and persistence in the values of freedom and democracy.
Shen Liqian said that she suffered from neonatal acute myeloid leukemia when she was born. After treatment, her right leg became severely blackened due to venous occlusion and had to be amputated to save her life. She has been wearing prosthetics since she was 1 or 2 years old. But I was lucky to have optimistic and positive parents who accompanied me all the way up. I encountered bullying when I was in junior high school, and my father happened to be interested in raising eagles. From then on, eagles broke into my life, and I went from being afraid to learning to become a falconer. He also began to give lectures on life education on campus. He has visited hundreds of lectures in the past 10 years. Now he has been recognized by the top ten. He will continue to move forward with the honor and study at the Institute of Sociology. He will continue to advocate for equal rights for people with disabilities and sustainable education.
Another top ten winner this year, 38-year-old Yang Wendong, left his 10-year military career 6 years ago and turned to the field of art work. He returned to a rural elementary school in Taitung as an art teacher. At first, he just wanted to teach a class well, but because a child came from a distance and shouted: "Teacher Dayang!", he decided to stay in the countryside to share his works, life and stories. He said, "I have always believed that education is a process of life accompanying life, and art is the warmest bridge between people."
Zhang Xuzhi, president of the Youth Chamber of Commerce, said that this year's top ten candidates include 11 people in scientific research, grassroots labor education, business entrepreneurship, medicine, social services, sports, literature and art, public administration, agriculture, fishery and environmental protection, human rights care and the Chinese Youth Special Award.
