High-definition images of wild forest musk deer were captured for the first time in Hubei Wufeng Houhe Reserve

China News Service, Yichang, September 24 (Zong Yu, Dong Xiaobin) Reporters learned from Hubei Wufeng Houhe National Nature Reserve on the 24th that staff of the reserve recently captured high-definition field images of forest musk deer, a national first-level protected wild animal, during field scientific research and monitoring. It is reported that this is the first time that Houhe Nature Reserve has captured clear and detailed images of wild forest musk deer.

Forest musk deer are timid, alert and secretive by nature. They are mostly active at night and are good at flexibly shuttling between steep rock walls and dense forests. They are vividly called "cliff elves". In the captured footage, the forest musk deer walks through the forest bushes and rocks. It has a strong and vigorous posture, its ears are erect, and its gray-brown fur and the iconic milky white lines on its lower jaw are clearly visible.

The relevant person in charge of Houhe Nature Reserve said that forest musk deer have extremely strict requirements on the vegetation coverage, ecological environment and food chain integrity of the habitat, and are an important indicator species for measuring the health and integrity of the forest ecosystem. The acquisition of high-definition images breaks through the previous monitoring limitations of relying solely on low-resolution captures by infrared cameras, and has extremely high scientific research and ecological value.

Houhe Nature Reserve is located in the Wuling Mountains of Hubei Province. In recent years, the reserve has continued to promote biodiversity protection, carried out regular special surveys and dynamic monitoring of rare species such as forest musk deer and black bears, and continuously improved all-round protection systems such as wildlife protection, habitat restoration, and patrol prevention and control to build a solid ecological barrier for the survival and reproduction of rare species.
