Olga Lyubimova called the use of AI in art a challenge for relevant departments

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in art is a challenge for the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Digital Development and everyone who works with audiovisual products, says Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova.

“Sometimes you watch strange, implausible videos and you no longer believe your own eyes - you cannot determine whether it is artificial intelligence or not. This is a challenge for the relevant department, for the Ministry of Digital Development, and for everyone involved in audiovisual production,” Lyubimova told the Izvestia newspaper.

She noted that the Ministry of Culture does not exist outside of this issue and general discussion, and cited the example of the digitalization of lectures to preserve the heritage of the professoriate. The minister emphasized that theater is now filmed using sophisticated technologies, and productions are preserved for many years. In her opinion, it is now important to “tame” artificial intelligence so that it creates masterpieces, without killing human gift and talent.

“I am always on the side of the copyright holder. There is an artist who created the work, there is a composer who wrote the music, and their work must be treated with respect. It is important not only to regulate work with works created by humans, but also to ensure fair compensation for this work,” Lyubimova added, answering a question about protecting the rights of authors when using AI.
