It is on the basis of the "1992 Consensus" that embodies the one-China principle that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait have been able to conduct negotiations and reach a series of results that benefit compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. After the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, it stubbornly adhered to the stance of "Taiwan independence" and refused to recognize the "1992 Consensus" embodying the one-China principle. It unilaterally undermined the political foundation of cross-Strait consultations and led to the suspension of cross-Strait institutionalized consultation, negotiation and communication mechanisms.
