Trump promotes his golf course as a presidential resort... “Military and Secret Service Proposal” (comprehensive)

(Washington = Yonhap News) Correspondent Park Seong-min = The Washington Post (WP) reported on the 7th (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump plans to turn his West Palm Beach Golf Course in Palm Beach, Florida, into a private resort for the U.S. president.

According to reports, attorney Harvey Oyer, who represents the golf course, sent a proposal stating this to Palm Beach County, which owns the golf course site.

The gist of the proposal is to designate a portion of the golf course as a permanent, official retreat for foreign heads of state and future U.S. presidents.

The plan is to hold meetings with foreign leaders here and to allow the president to stay here while on vacation in Florida. Additionally, future U.S. presidents will be provided with free memberships to the golf course.

Attorney Oyer requested that Palm Beach County provide some of the golf course land to the federal government, and promised that President Trump would cover the cost of constructing presidential residences and facilities.

He emphasized that since construction will not be completed before the end of President Trump's term, the project will be a "gift" to the next president and that Palm Beach County will benefit from more frequent visits by powerful figures.

“Just as Camp David, Windsor Castle, and the Elysee Palace are known around the world, so will the President’s golf course in Palm Beach County,” Oyer said in the proposal.

The U.S. president has a presidential resort called 'Camp David' in the Catactin Mountains of Maryland, about 100km northwest of Washington, DC.

This place, which maintains strong security by the U.S. military, is used as a place for the president and his family to recharge, discuss state affairs with key staff, and as a stage for summit diplomacy, but President Trump has preferred his home, the Mar-a-Lago Resort in Palm Beach.

The West Palm Beach golf course that President Trump wants to use as his new presidential resort is right next to the Mar-a-Lago Resort.

Palm Beach County Executive Joseph Abruzzo told the Post that the county is seriously reviewing the proposal and is requesting additional information. He said the county is in contact with the General Services Administration (GSA), which manages federal property, and plans to select a site suitable for the proposal.

WP pointed out that if this becomes a presidential resort, the Trump family company that runs the golf course is likely to receive more business profits, and President Trump's influence on Palm Beach could be further solidified.

President Trump met with reporters at the White House on this day and said, "This proposal was made by the military and the Secret Service (SS)," and explained the advantages, including that it is easy to ensure safety as much as possible because there are no high-rise buildings nearby and there are no houses along the golf course, and the airport is only two minutes away.

President Trump also said, "They asked and I said yes. This is not for me, this is for every future president. It's a really great idea and I think it will be used a lot in the future."
