Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education operates ‘Forest Login’, a 72-hour digital detox camp for middle school students

(Daegu = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Deok-gi = The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 16th that it will operate a digital detox camp called ‘Forest Login’ where middle school students return their smartphones and spend 72 hours in nature.

This camp will be held at Palgongsan Training Center and Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do from the 18th to the 21st, with about 20 first-year students from Susa Middle School participating.

Participating students return their smartphones upon entering the camp and participate in experience-oriented programs such as nature experiences, community activities, reading and meditation, and sports activities for 72 hours.

In particular, the Office of Education plans to collaborate with researchers at the Korea Brain Research Institute to conduct brain waves and cognitive function tests of students participating in the camp, and compare and analyze brain waves and stress indices before admission and after the end of the camp.

Students also have time to share the changes and growth they experienced over the 3 nights and 4 days before returning their smartphones at the end of the camp and write a 'Healthy Digital Use Practice Declaration'.

Superintendent Kang Eun-hee said, “I hope that students will form healthy digital habits by turning off their smartphones for a moment and spending time focusing on nature, people, and themselves.”
