Vice President Xiao Meiqin went to Daxing Palace in Mingjian Township, Nantou County this morning (29th) to burn incense and vigorously build momentum for the Democratic Progressive Party’s Nantou County Mayor candidate Wen Shizheng and party public officials. In response to the strong opposition from local people including Wen Shizheng and Mingjian Township Mayor Chen Hanli to the establishment of incinerators in the local area, Xiao Meiqin publicly stated that in order to install incinerators when changing land use in specific agricultural areas, strict legal procedures must be followed. When conducting environmental impact assessments, great attention must be paid to water source safety and surrounding ecological conservation such as stone tigers.

In her speech, Xiao Meiqin emphasized the three core focuses of local concerns. The first is the traditional tea industry in Mingjian Township. She pointed out that Taiwanese tea is a world-class agricultural product. During her tenure as the representative in the United States, she found that there were many hand-made drink shops around her residence, many of which were founded by young Taiwanese entrepreneurs. This is Taiwan's most delicious soft power. Recently, she has been actively seeking to sell Taiwanese tea to the United States. Secondly, water security, whether it is agricultural irrigation or water safety for people's livelihood, is the bottom line that the government and local people are most concerned about. Finally, regarding the stone tiger’s habitat and surrounding ecology, the environmental impact assessment review process must be scientific and rigorous. She will fully convey the local voice to the Ministry of Agriculture.

In addition, Xiao Meiqin praised Wen Shizheng as not only an excellent doctor and entrepreneur, but also a warm heart. She affirmed that Wen Shizheng was willing to put aside his career and return to his hometown to participate in the election campaign, taking care of local elders with a doctor's perspective and carefulness. She looked forward to the full support of the villagers so that Wen Shizheng could smoothly implement the long-term care 3.0 policy in the future, promote more convenient transportation, and push agricultural development to a peak.
