The results of the qualification review of the candidates for the Taichung City Mayor and Heping District Chief Representative Elections were announced

The Taichung City Election Committee stated today that a total of 1,121 people applied to register for the 5th district chief election in Taichung City, 6 people applied for registration for the 4th district chief election in Heping District, and 20 people applied for the district representative election. After review, those who met the candidate registration qualifications were 111 district chiefs. 1 person, 5 district chiefs of Heping District and 20 district residents' representatives. Among them, 1 district chief candidate from Fengyuan District was originally of Chinese nationality. Although he has settled and registered in Taiwan, he has not completed the payment of proof of loss of Chinese household registration for 10 years in accordance with regulations. After review, he will not be registered as a candidate for the district chief election.

The Municipal Election Committee also pointed out that among the candidates for mayor, a total of nine people were not allowed to register as candidates due to circumstances specified in Article 26 of the Law on the Election and Recall of Public Officials (hereinafter referred to as the Election and Recall Law). Among them, in North Lili of Wuri District, because only one person has registered, the Municipal Election Committee will announce that the second registration of candidates for the district chief will be carried out at the Wuri District Office on October 1 and 2.

In addition, a candidate for district chief in Fengyuan District was originally of Chinese nationality. According to the Regulations on Relations between the People of Taiwan and the Mainland Area and the Mainland Affairs Council regulations, although the candidate has settled and registered in Taiwan, he has not completed the payment of proof of loss of Chinese household registration for 10 years in accordance with the regulations. After review, he is not allowed to register as a candidate for the 5th district chief election in Taichung City.

The Municipal Election Committee also stated that among the qualified candidates for district chief this time, 5 had criminal records. They checked the relevant judicial information one by one and made a review opinion report. After review at the committee meeting, there was no situation that prohibited them from registering as candidates according to the election and strike law.

The Municipal Election Committee pointed out that a total of 6 candidates for the mayor of Heping District have completed the registration. One of them is not allowed to register as an election candidate because he does not have mountain aboriginal status and does not comply with the provisions of Article 13 of the Implementation Rules of the Election and Strike Law. The remaining 5 people are qualified as candidates; there are 20 candidates for district representative of Heping District, all of whom are qualified as candidates.

The Municipal Election Committee said that for this local civil servant election and national referendum, Taichung City has a total of 1,980 voting stations, 82 more than the previous referendum, and more than 30,000 election workers. In addition, in line with Article 57, Paragraph 3 of the Election and Recall Act, this election will implement new measures to ensure secret voting by indigenous electors for the first time.
