An unlicensed factory using spoiled poultry parts was seized in Egypt

The General Administration for Market Regulation under Egypt’s Consumer Protection Authority carried out a surprise inspection campaign in Qalyubia Governorate, uncovering alarming violations in the field of food safety.

The campaign, which specifically targeted the Markaz and city of El-Khanka, resulted in the seizure of an unlicensed factory that was reusing poultry parts of unknown origin and past their expiration date to manufacture meat and poultry products, according to the official Instagram page of the government organization on Sunday.

According to the post, the “spoiled” poultry was stored in large freezers, in preparation for being collected and supplied as raw materials to factories producing meat and poultry products, for use in preparing various processed food items.

These products included “shawarma, breaded fried chicken (pani), sausages, kofta (meatballs), and luncheon meat (processed meats),” as stated by the government body under the Egyptian Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The campaign also seized a factory producing toasted bread (intended for distribution to koshary shops) using raw materials of unknown origin and past their expiration date.
