After four months and 9 days, the presidents of the world's two most powerful economies, America and China, are meeting again. Earlier, there was a meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping on May 14, 2026, when US President Trump visited China.
The only difference this time is that Chinese President Xi Jinping will be welcomed in Washington, who will be on an official visit to America from 23 to 25 September 2026. He is going on the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
The main meeting of the two Presidents will take place in Washington on September 24.
China's Foreign Ministry has said that the two leaders will talk in detail on important issues related to US-China relations as well as topics related to peace and development in the world. However, the complete and detailed agenda of the meeting has not been made public.
In BBC News Hindi's podcast 'Din Bhar', international affairs expert Professor Dhananjay Tripathi said, "This meeting is positive for both the countries. Chinese President Xi and US President Trump are meeting at a time when two wars are going on. President Xi is going on the invitation of US President Trump."
He says, "There are also differences between the two countries regarding tariffs. AI is also an issue. There is also a deal worth about 12-14 billion dollars related to defense material between America and Taiwan, which China does not want."
Iran can also be discussed in this meeting, because there is a strategic partnership between China and Iran. Russia can also be an important issue for talks, because China fulfills a part of its energy needs from Russia. Therefore, some important things may come to light after this meeting.
China has good relations with Iran. President Trump has indicated that he wants to negotiate again with Iran. In such a situation, China can play a big role in this.
The deadlock over the Strait of Hormuz can also be discussed in this meeting and if this path is opened with the mediation of China, it will be a great achievement.
Dhananjay Tripathi says, "There is always competition between China and America. President Trump generally does not meet anyone so soon. In such a situation, the meeting of the two presidents will be a big thing for world politics."
According to him, "There is competition between the two countries regarding AI also. There is talk that China and America can come together to decide the rules for the use of AI. From the point of view of international politics, the meeting of these two leaders is a big message in itself."
After the meeting of then US President Joe Biden and Xi Jinping in California in November 2023, both the countries had decided to start government-level talks on the dangers and security of AI.
After this, the first formal government talks on the dangers and security of AI took place in Geneva in May 2024 between officials of the US and China.
Even after the Trump-Xi meeting in Busan in October 2025, China had placed AI among the areas where both countries can cooperate.
The new thing this time is that both the countries are talking about direct contact and information sharing arrangements in case of any serious incident related to AI.
According to a report by BBC correspondent Osmond Chia, senior officials of America and China have discussed creating a new system to inform each other about incidents related to AI.

According to Reuters report, apart from AI, trade may be the most important issue in this meeting. The current arrangement to limit tariffs between the US and China is scheduled to expire on November 10 and no agreement has yet been reached on extending it.
Along with this, there can also be talks on supply of rare earth minerals from China, purchase of American agricultural products and Boeing planes, prevention of chemicals used in making fentanyl and sale of American weapons to Taiwan.
