More than 80 supporters of the banned pro-Palestinian organization Palestine Action have been detained in Liverpool.

The arrests took place against the backdrop of the annual convention of the ruling Labor Party.

The detainees are suspected of carrying materials supporting a banned organization.

LONDON, September 28 - RIA Novosti. British police reported the detention in Liverpool of more than 80 supporters of the banned pro-Palestinian organization Palestine Action, who had gathered against the backdrop of the annual convention of the ruling Labor Party.

Labour's convention takes place in Liverpool from 27 to 30 September. Earlier, the Defend Our Juries group, which regularly holds rallies in support of Palestine Action, called on activists to gather and demand that Prime Minister Andy Burnham lift the ban. Hundreds of activists gathered in Liverpool city center on Sunday holding signs in support of Palestine Action.

"A total of 82 people were detained on suspicion of carrying material supporting a banned organization. They were remanded in custody and released on bail," Merseyside Police said in a statement.

According to law enforcement officials, about 180 people took part in the protest, but not all those present committed criminal acts.
