Yemen's parliament approves request for general mobilization

The Yemeni Parliament by a majority vote approved the request of the head of the Presidential Governing Council to declare a general mobilization.

Parliament instructed the National Defense Council to carry out general mobilization.

The National Defense Council went into continuous meeting to monitor the mobilization.

The Yemeni Parliament by a majority vote approved the request of the head of the Governing Presidential Council to announce a general mobilization and instructed the National Defense Council to carry it out, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament for Organizational Issues Mohsen Basira told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Yemen's internationally recognized government reported that parliament had voted to declare a general mobilization to participate in the war against the Houthi rebels.

“The legitimate parliament of Yemen, which is recognized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Arab and Asian parliamentary organizations, convened a meeting and considered the request of the head of the presidential council for general mobilization and its rationale,” Basira said.

According to him, after a lengthy discussion, a special parliamentary committee decided to “approve the request of the head of the Presidential Governing Council to declare a general mobilization in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.”
