NGO Lar Espírita Maria Lobato de Freitas is invaded and robbed in Uberlândia

A non-profit institution that serves children and teenagers in the Laranjeiras neighborhood, in Uberlândia, was the target of a break-in followed by theft on Saturday afternoon (26). The NGO Lar Espírita Maria Lobato de Freitas was closed and the Military Police were called by neighbors. Two men, aged 24 and 36.

Images from monitoring cameras captured the duo's movement, and videos obtained by TV Integração show the suspects being arrested in the act and taken by the military to the vehicle. Watch the video above.

With the authors, approximately 50 meters of electrical wires, two glasses and nine taps were recovered.

The Military Police reported that the two detained men were taken to the Civil Police Duty Station.

Neighbors called the police

According to a representative of the NGO who did not want to be identified, witnesses saw the suspects jump over the wall and called the police.

“Everything went very quickly, thanks to the help of the community”, reported the representative.

NGO was robbed three times in one week

In July 2025, the institution had already been robbed three times in one week. On that occasion, criminals also took wires and caused damage to the NGO.

According to the representative, this time a smaller amount of wiring was taken, but the cables were cut and cannot be reused. The taps stolen from the bathrooms were recovered after the police arrived.

In a statement, the NGO thanked the neighbors and the Military Police for their quick action, which allowed for the arrest in the act and avoided further damage. The institution reported that it was working to repair the damage, but continued to normally provide services to around 110 children and families in the community.
