Ronaldo demands that Al-Taawoun fans be punished after they mocked Diogo Jota in front of Neves

(CNN) - Users of the “X” platform circulated an alleged video of a group of fans during a match between Al-Taawoun and Al-Hilal clubs, at Al-Awal Stadium, on Saturday, within the matches of the seventh round of the Saudi Professional League.

The video showed some fans chanting the name of the late Portuguese player "Diogo Jota" in an attempt to provoke the Blue Crescent midfielder, Ruben Neves, who seemed angry after hearing that.

Jota, who died in July 2025 in a car accident at the age of 28, was a close friend of Neves, and they played together for the English club Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Portuguese national team.

Ruben Neves attended the burial ceremony of Diogo Jota, and appeared very emotional at the time.

On Sunday, the "TNT Sports" network quoted Cristiano Ronaldo's comment on the circulating video, which said: "The league must take measures and punish this type of fan behavior. This is no longer football, and there must be limits."

Ronaldo added: "People who behave in this way should not be allowed to enter the field again."
