Alice Weidel accused the German government of leading the country to bankruptcy

BERLIN, September 9 - RIA Novosti. The German government, led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, is leading Germany to state bankruptcy, said Alice Weidel, co-chair of the opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD).

“You are leading Germany to state bankruptcy in record time. That is exactly what you are doing. Meanwhile, deindustrialization is sweeping through our country with increasing force,” Weidel said, addressing Merz during her speech in the Bundestag during the debate on the draft German federal budget for 2027.

She noted that the ruling coalition of the CDU/CSU and the SPD in Germany has already destroyed public finances so much that by the end of the current parliamentary term, all of Germany's record tax revenues will be enough "solely and exclusively to pay interest on debts and social expenses."

The German Federal Audit Office, as the deputy noted, also persistently warns the authorities about the inevitable fall into a “debt trap.”

The politician, in support of her words about the disappointing economic situation in Germany, pointed to the monthly reduction of 12 thousand jobs in industry in the country. She also recalled that last year alone, 190 thousand enterprises were closed in the country, and every third German entrepreneur in the field of small and medium-sized businesses is planning to move abroad.

“The number of unemployed people is back above the 3 million mark, retail sales are falling to pre-coronavirus levels, and the public sector and the asylum industry remain the only growth sectors in Germany. This is what they have done to our country,” Weidel concluded.

At the beginning of September, the German Audit Chamber predicted an increase in budget expenditures that the German government will spend on servicing the national debt: from the current 5.8% to 12.7% in 2030. The agency also warned that public debt will grow faster than the country's GDP.
