US Secretary of State Marco Rubio allowed joint mining of rare earth minerals in Greenland after striking a deal with local authorities.

The United States, Denmark and Greenland signed an agreement on September 22 to expand the American military presence on the island.

“Of course, we will do this in partnership with them,” Rubio said in an interview on Fox News, answering a question about whether the United States has a chance to mine the rare earth that the island is rich in.

The Secretary of State stressed that this was not a US priority, but after the deal was concluded with local authorities, such an opportunity arose.

“Now that this (deal - ed.) is behind us, I think we have the opportunity to make good investments there,” he concluded.
