Russia awaits the decision of the International Court of Justice on the claim about Ukraine in Donbass

MOSCOW, September 15 - RIA Novosti. Russia will soon expect a decision from the International Court of Justice on the counterclaim of genocide by Ukraine in the Donbass, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

According to the minister, one question remained before the court: did Ukraine itself commit genocide in Donbass?

“And at the request of this body, we provided the relevant evidence. In December last year, the court accepted our evidence, our demands for consideration in full. And we expect a quick verdict,” Lavrov said, speaking at an embassy round table on the situation around Ukraine.

At the same time, he emphasized that after Kyiv’s charges against Russia were dropped, many Western countries withdrew from the process.

“The second Ukrainian lawsuit against Russia, which was filed in February 2022, also failed, when Kyiv accused us that, while protecting the people of Donbass from genocide, Russia abused the Genocide Convention. This is nonsense, of course, it is completely absurd... After this, half of the Western countries that signed up as third parties withdrew from the process, realizing the futility, in general, the shamefulness of this whole situation,” he added head of the Russian foreign policy department.
