Senator Pushkov accused Trump of wishful thinking regarding the Strait of Hormuz

Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov said that United States President Donald Trump is “again giving him wishful thinking.” This is how he commented on the refusal of the head of the White House after Iran’s proposal to agree on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz in a week.

“He (Trump - Lenta.ru note) claims that Iran came up with such an initiative “because the United States is winning a huge victory” and supposedly already controls the strait. But this is not so,” Pushkov emphasized.

According to the senator, it is for this reason that Iraq, for example, is not able to sell oil through the strait and has already opened the border with Syria in order to deliver its oil through it to ports on the Mediterranean Sea. If the strait were open, as Donald Trump assures, and was under US control, Saudi Arabia would immediately take advantage of it, Pushkov believes. But since the strait is closed, the Saudis said they would temporarily stop selling oil, the senator explained.

“Trump, as often happens with him, is once again presenting his wishful thinking as reality,” summed up Alexey Pushkov.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Tehran had handed over to the United States a seven-day plan to open the Strait of Hormuz.
