The European Commission called on EU countries to reduce gas and electricity consumption for an unknown period. Politico writes about this.

It is reported that such a call is contained in a letter from European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen to the energy ministers of the EU countries. In his opinion, a decrease in demand could restrain energy prices in conditions of their high volatility and limited global supply.

At the same time, the European Commissioner could not clarify for how long such measures should be introduced. He called for limiting demand for as long as necessary. The publication, in turn, noted that due to the conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran, the European Union is approaching the heating season with a record low filling level of gas storage facilities.
