The Millennium of Russia monument and the belfry of St. Sophia Cathedral will be restored in Veliky Novgorod

MOSCOW, September 14 - RIA Novosti. The monument "Millennium of Russia" and the belfry of the St. Sophia Cathedral in Veliky Novgorod will be restored within five years, Governor of the Novgorod Region Alexander Dronov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Monday, Putin met with Dronov. The governor clarified that, on the instructions of the president, a list of 37 federal monuments that needed restoration was formed, and five objects were identified for priority work.

As Dronov clarified, work has already been completed at the Church of Peter and Paul on Sinichaya Gora - it was opened in June. Restoration of the Church of Elijah the Prophet continues and is planned to be completed in 2027. This year, work began on the Church of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary and the Intercession Tower in the Kremlin; they should be completed in 2029. The restoration of another Kremlin tower, Kokuy, is planned to begin in 2027. The restoration of Yaroslav's courtyard continues. Last year, restoration of 11 World Heritage monuments took place here.

“Thank you for the decision to re-register STLC (State Transport Leasing Company - ed.) on the territory of the Novgorod region. This will allow us to restore the most basic objects over the next five years: this is the monument “Millennium of Russia” - this is a symbol of our country, this is the belfry of the St. Sophia Cathedral and two churches of the 14th century - the Church of the Savior on Kovalevo and the Church of the Assumption on Volotovo Pole,” Dronov said.
