Egypt and the United States discuss the crisis in Sudan and developments in the Libyan scene

This came during a call with Musaad Boulos, the US President’s senior advisor for Arab and African affairs, on Saturday. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that it comes “within the framework of ongoing consultation between Egypt and the United States, addressing bilateral relations, developments in the crisis in Sudan, developments in the Libyan scene, and ways to achieve security and stability in the two countries.”

Regarding the Sudanese issue, the ministry’s statement stated that the two sides reviewed the ongoing movements and communications to stop the escalation and deal with the continuing deterioration in the humanitarian situation, while the Egyptian minister stressed the need to build on the current efforts to stop the conflict and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches its beneficiaries without obstacles.

Abdel-Aty also renewed "the importance of preserving Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, preserving its national institutions, and rejecting external interventions that would prolong the crisis or complicate the paths to its settlement."

He pointed out that "ending the Sudanese crisis requires, in parallel, launching a comprehensive political path with Sudanese ownership and leadership that preserves state institutions and responds to the aspirations of the Sudanese people."

Regarding the situation in Libya, the two parties discussed ways to create the necessary conditions to achieve progress in the political process in Libya and end the state of division, while Abdel-Aty stressed that Egypt’s movements are based on the priority of preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the unity of its national institutions, with the importance of the political process remaining purely Libyan, according to the statement.

The Egyptian Minister indicated that holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously represents an essential step to restore stability, stressing the importance of integrating regional and international efforts in support of the political path, in a way that helps the Libyans reach a sustainable settlement that reflects their will and preserves the unity of the state and its institutions.
