A US court postponed hearings in the case of Russian Sergei Filimonov to the end of November

A US court postponed preliminary hearings in the case of Russian Sergei Filimonov to the end of November after his defense complained about the volume of evidence collected by the prosecutor's office.

American authorities accuse Filimonov of participating in an international cyber fraud scheme involving bank accounts.

Filimonov has pleaded not guilty and remains in the custody of the US Marshals Service.

A US court postponed preliminary hearings in the case against Russian Sergei Filimonov, accused of attempting to steal millions of dollars through electronic fraud, to the end of November after his defense complained about the volume of evidence collected by the prosecutor's office.

“Preliminary hearings in the case are scheduled for November 30,” says the ruling of the district court in Georgia, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti.

It was planned that the meeting would be held on Monday, but Filimonov asked for time to familiarize himself with the case materials, it follows from the protocol.

“The client indicates that the court recently issued a decision to protect part of the information, and the expected voluminous amounts of information from the prosecution have not yet been received. In this regard, the client asked for a postponement of 60 days. The prosecutor’s office did not object,” the court documents say.

The US Department of Justice previously announced the extradition of 36-year-old Filimonov from Georgia. He appeared in federal court in Atlanta on September 4th. The Russian pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in the custody of the US Marshals Service. At the preliminary hearing, the court, in addition to reviewing the collected evidence, may consider the possibility of a plea bargain if the parties come to such an agreement.
