New Action Plan to Combat Irregular Migration from the EU Commission

According to the statement made by the EU Commission, following the irregular migration attempt that took place in Sebte (Ceuta), Spain's territory in North Africa, on July 30-31, a plan aiming to increase the fight in this area was presented to member states. The plan includes increasing cooperation with partner countries to prevent irregular migration, strengthening the EU's external borders, improving early warning systems, eliminating migrant smuggling networks and supporting returns.

With the new plan, it is proposed to combat the root causes of irregular migration within the scope of increasing cooperation with partner countries, to establish a "Youth Skills and Employment Initiative" that will provide opportunities for young people in the Mediterranean, and to establish new Transition Offices (Gateway offices) to encourage legal transitions to the EU. In addition, it is envisaged to establish closer cooperation between partner countries, the EU's border protection agency Frontex, the EU Police Service (Europol), the EU Judicial Cooperation Agency (Eurojust) and the establishment of European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR) Coordination Centers.
