The US foresees a quota of 17,500 people in its 2027 fiscal year refugee admission plan, the majority of whom are Afrikaners.

According to news in the US media, in the 2027 fiscal year refugee admission plan submitted to Congress by the US State Department, it was envisaged that the number of refugees to be accepted into the country would be limited to 17 thousand 500.

It was stated that the majority of the refugees in question are planned to be selected from South African Afrikaners.

According to the plan, resettling refugees in the United States is expected to cost approximately $500 million in fiscal year 2027.

Refugee status for Afrikaners

With the decree he signed in February 2025, US President Donald Trump accused the South African government of race-based discrimination against Afrikaners and instructed US institutions to give priority to accepting these people as refugees.

The US administration increased the refugee acceptance quota, which was initially set at 7,500 for the 2026 fiscal year, to 17,500 in May, and decided to reserve an additional 10,000 quota for South African Afrikaners.

The South African government has repeatedly rejected the allegations that Afrikaners face systematic discrimination and persecution in the country, stating that these allegations do not reflect the truth.
