21 historical artifacts returned from the USA were brought to Syria

Syrian Museum Affairs Director Ammar Kenavi, in his statement to the AA correspondent, said that the archaeological artifacts returned from the USA were brought to the country by the presidential plane with the delegation accompanying President Ahmed Shara.

Emphasizing that the return of the artifacts has important political and cultural meanings, especially in the current period, Kenavi stated that the return of the artifacts that were illegally removed from the country during the war years contributed to the Syrian people regaining their lost identity.

Kenavi said, "The return of archaeological artifacts also means the return of the Syrian identity." he said.

Stating that they hope to bring all the artifacts illegally removed from Syria to the country, Kenavi compared the return of the artifacts to "the return of Syrians displaced due to the civil war to their country and homes."

Kenavi stated that the 21 works delivered to the Syrian delegation in New York and brought to the museum belong to different periods and materials.

Noting that the returned artifacts included 4 cylinder seals with religious and mythologically important depictions and various bronze figurines, Kenavi said that among these was a bronze figurine of a female figure of artistic and historical importance.

Kenavi stated that they estimate that the artifact in question came from the Euphrates region of Syria.

Stating that there was a jug made of glazed ceramics among the returned works, Kenavi stated that this work was similar to the ceramics produced in Raqqa at the end of the Ayyubid period.

Stating that the works come from different regions and historical periods, Kenavi said that all of them bear the characteristics of Syrian art.
