Statements from US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee about the West Bank and Settlers

Speaking to The Jerusalem Post, Huckabee said that violence should be condemned no matter who it comes from, and that it would be "a little bit hypocritical" if he did not condemn it when Palestinians attack Israelis and condemn it when Israelis attack Palestinians.

While speaking about the occupied West Bank by the names given by Israel (Judea and Samaria), Ambassador Huckabee claimed that those who attacked Palestinians in this region did not represent the majority of Israelis who usurped Palestinian lands.

Describing the Israelis who usurped Palestinian lands in the West Bank as "500 thousand Israelis who live extremely peacefully and raise their children as good citizens," Huckabee claimed that the Israelis who attacked the Palestinians represented a very small minority.

Huckabee also argued that "the Israelis have the right to build illegal settlements on Palestinian lands seized in Area C of the West Bank under the Oslo Accords, and that this does not violate any of the conditions agreed upon in Oslo in 1993."

Ambassador Huckabee stated that the images of masked youths seizing Palestinian homes in the West Bank and attacking international journalists damaged Israel's reputation both within the Republican Party and around the world.

Palestinians, who were attacked by dozens of armed and masked Israelis who usurped Palestinian lands in the Kusra town of Nablus city of the occupied West Bank, were later beaten by the Israeli army, which came to the scene.
