Abhay Singh claims silver in men's singles squash at Asian Games 2026

NEW DELHI: India’s Abhay Singh claimed the silver medal in the men’s singles squash event at the Asian Games 2026, going down 0–3 to Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow in the gold-medal match on Sunday.

The Indian stayed competitive in the opening game before the world No. 17 took control, winning 11–9, 11–5, 11–5 to secure the title.

World No. 26 Abhay, who had advanced to the final without major difficulty, was bidding to add another chapter to India’s strong history in men’s singles squash at the continental showpiece. But Ng’s consistency and ability to respond to the Indian’s attacking play proved decisive.

The silver gives India another medal in squash, with attention now turning to the women’s singles final, where Anahat Singh is set to face Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam.

The final began with both players trading points, as Abhay looked to put pressure on Ng with his attacking shots. The Malaysian held a narrow 4–3 advantage in the early exchanges, but the Indian stayed close and continued to find ways to challenge his opponent.

Abhay produced one of the standout moments of the opening game with a clever change of angle at the last moment. With Ng anticipating the shot to go in another direction, Abhay’s adjustment caught the Malaysian off guard and kept the Indian within reach at 8–7.

Ng, however, managed the closing stages better to take the first game 11–9. The narrow margin left Abhay with reason to believe he could turn the contest around, but the Malaysian carried the momentum into the second.

Ng raised his level in the second game, taking it 11–5 to move within one game of the gold medal. Abhay faced the challenge of winning three consecutive games to overturn the deficit, but the Malaysian continued to dictate the rallies and limit the Indian’s opportunities.

Abhay made a bright start to the third game, moving 4–2 ahead and briefly suggesting a possible fightback. Ng responded quickly, though, and gradually reclaimed the lead.

The Malaysian moved ahead 6–5, with Abhay still within a point, but Ng’s steady play helped him close out the game 11–5 and complete the straight-games victory.

The result brought Abhay’s run to a close with a silver medal, while Ng added the Asian Games men’s singles title to his campaign.
