Acun Ilıcalı's statement about Manchester City: It is financial doping

Acun Ilıcalı, the owner of Hull City, made remarkable statements about the Manchester City file, which was decided on the grounds that it violated financial rules. Ilıcalı, the first Premier League club owner to speak after the English team was found guilty, evaluated the process.

An independent commission ruled that Manchester City were liable for 114 allegations related to financial rules. The club, as before, rejects the allegations of violating the rules and is preparing to appeal the decision.

In his statement on the subject, Acun Ilıcalı evaluated Manchester City's situation based on the doping example. Ilıcalı said, "I'm not saying they are guilty or not, because they say they are innocent. The Premier League thinks they are not innocent. If they are not innocent and they did something, this is no different from winning an Olympic medal by doping. At the end of the day, this is financial doping."

Hull City's owner stated that high expenses could disrupt the balance of competition and said, "Bringing the best 4-5 players for huge amounts of money and breaking the rules does not seem positive. If there is something unfair in football, it should be punished. If you give a small penalty, everyone will do it. For the clean future of football, if such situations occur, the necessary sanctions should be applied."

Ilıcalı also emphasized that the economic difference between the clubs is already large and said, "It is not possible for us to have the budget of the top 6 or top 10 teams in England, but we respect that. Please do not widen the gap further. Such mistakes provide incredible advantages to some teams and this is not fair."
