Admiral Dragone: NATO is ready to defend its eastern flank

The alliance is ready, the structure is ready, the soldiers... the weapons are ready, emphasized Admiral Dragone, adding that NATO is constantly working to increase the number and technical advancement of its forces. As he noted, these actions are aimed at ensuring the security of member states, especially those closest to the Russian border.

In recent weeks, European leaders have increasingly warned against possible provocations from Russia. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday expressed concerns that in the coming months Moscow may attempt to launch drones or missiles towards one of the countries of NATO's eastern flank. Similar warnings also appeared from the leaders of France and the Netherlands.

As the Politico website reminds, Europe is currently struggling with an increasing number of airspace violations and sabotage attempts, and tensions between the West and Russia are not easing due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. In August, American intelligence warned that Russia may be preparing a limited attack on one of the NATO countries in the coming years.

During Saturday's meeting in Copenhagen, the generals did not discuss the latest warnings, but Admiral Dragone emphasized that NATO has detailed plans to defend its eastern flank.

We have four thousand pages of military plans covering various scenarios - from a minimal crisis to a serious interference on our territory, he noted.

Let us recall that after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2023, NATO allies agreed on three operational regional defense plans to ensure an effective response to any threats.

Allies are ready in case of escalation. In case of an attack, we know how to deal with it, assured Dragone. He also added that Russia's recent provocative actions only strengthen the unity and determination of member states.

These trials do not divide us. They sharpen our tools, making us much more united and determined, concluded the head of the NATO Military Committee.
