Yellow weather alert in Campania: storm and hydrogeological risk

Sudden and locally intense thunderstorms are expected from 10pm today to 4pm tomorrow, accompanied by possible hail, lightning and strong gusts of wind. A hydrogeological risk is expected with possible flooding, flooding and landslides

The Civil Protection of Campania has issued a yellow weather alert valid from 10pm this evening until 4pm tomorrow, Friday 25 September. The measure was adopted on the basis of the assessments of the Regional Functional Center.

Heavy showers and strong gusts of wind are expected

Sudden showers and thunderstorms are expected across the entire regional territory, which may be locally intense. Hail, gusts of wind and lightning will also be possible and could cause damage to roofs and exposed structures.

Risk of flooding and landslides

The alert also highlights a hydrogeological risk linked to possible effects of precipitation on the ground. The main inconveniences reported include flooding, flooding, exceeding the hydrometric levels of watercourses, water flowing along roadways, rock falls and landslides due to the fragility of the land.

Attention to areas affected by fires

The Civil Protection recommends paying maximum attention in the areas affected by the fires that have occurred in the area in recent months which can increase the hydrogeological risk due to landslides: in order to mitigate and combat the expected phenomena, all the structural and non-structural measures envisaged must be implemented, according to the respective municipal Civil Protection plans. In consideration of possible gusts of wind, the competent local authorities are invited to check the stability of public green areas and structures exposed to atmospheric stress.
