Charges against 40-year-olds after arson attacks on party offices in Flensburg

The Flensburg public prosecutor's office has brought charges against a 40-year-old who is said to have damaged several party offices in downtown Flensburg over the Easter weekend. The defendant is charged with eight crimes, in six cases involving the use of a Molotov cocktail, as the public prosecutor announced. The most serious cases are four cases of attempted arson, some of which were serious. The offices of the district associations of the parties Die Linke, Bündnis90/Die Grünen and SPD were affected by these arson attacks.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the fact that there was only damage and not a fire to the buildings, some of which were permanently inhabited, was essentially due to the accused's "unintentionally amateurish approach."

The 40-year-old is said to have acted alone. With these acts he “wanted to take active “countermeasures” against the existing political system after he had failed to find comrades-in-arms for his “resistance,” according to the public prosecutor’s office.

The man was arrested at the beginning of June. At the request of the public prosecutor, the Flensburg district court issued an arrest warrant due to the risk of repetition. The state security agency took over the investigation.
