Assamese lawyer allegedly assaulted in Delhi amid property dispute

NEW DELHI: An Assamese woman lawyer was allegedly assaulted by a group of people in central Delhi amid an ongoing property dispute, police said on Saturday. Cases have been registered in connection with the incident, they said.

According to news agency PTI, the woman was allegedly assaulted in the Prasad Nagar area on Friday in the presence of police personnel. A purported video from the incident shows her in tears afterwards. The group allegedly also questioned why people from the Northeast should come to Delhi for work.

Police said the woman lawyer was representing a person identified as "Dollar Baba" in connection with a property dispute. The woman has also filed a complaint alleging molestation. An FIR is being registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the complaint, police said.

Police said the other group involved in the property dispute also filed a complaint alleging assault, following which a cross-FIR was registered against the woman’s group. The matter relates to an ongoing legal dispute between the two groups over a property in Prasad Nagar, police said. Further investigation is underway, police added.
