Saudi attack in Yemen: seven dead and 40 injured in Taiz

An attack conducted in Yemen by Saudi Arabia, an ally of the Yemeni government, caused seven deaths and 40 injuries; the television station of the Houthis, a pro-Iranian group, reported it. The attack hit the central market of Taiz in the south-west of the country, broadcaster Almasirah said.

This large city, controlled by government forces, is located on one of the main fighting fronts against the Houthis. The conflict intensified as anti-government fighters launched a lethal offensive, consolidating control over the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects Europe to Asia via the Suez Canal. Just on Saturday, the powerful Gulf monarchy announced that it had intercepted two drones "launched by the Houthi terrorist militia in the direction of the Riyadh region".

In this context, some schools in Riyadh announced on Sunday that, for a week, lessons would be held remotely. In Yemen, despite daily Saudi bombing and ongoing fighting on the ground, government forces and Riyadh have failed to repel the Houthis, and their appeals for international aid have so far remained unsuccessful.
