Augusto Cury celebrates growth in polls and projects second round against Lula

At a campaign event with supporters in Araçatuba, in the interior of SP, the writer and candidate for President of the Republic Augusto Cury (Avante) celebrated the recent rise in voting intention polls.

He established his presence in the final stage of the election and projected a direct confrontation against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), candidate for re-election.

"Look, I received it yesterday, it was at 0.2%, a week ago in Ceará, do you know how much we are? At 12.3%. Thank you, people from Ceará, thank you to the entire Northeast. They are joining en masse and there has never been a ramp-up, an increase in popularity or in rates of support for the candidacy in a week in the history of Brazil, perhaps in the history of the world", celebrated Cury.

The candidate's speech comes after the release of the most recent electoral surveys. The Quaest survey showed the Avante candidate isolated in third place, jumping from 2% to 10% of voting intentions. He beat names like Renan Santos (Missão), Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) and Romeu Zema (Novo).

In the Datafolha survey, the writer also marked a significant advance by reaching 8% of preferences, compared to 2% recorded in August.

With the rise in polls, Cury targets voters disillusioned with the current political scenario and seeks to consolidate the so-called "third way".

Possible second round

During his speech in Araçatuba, the presidential candidate said that his focus in a possible second round against the PT will be the economic agenda. He demanded solutions for family debt and the crisis in the commerce and agribusiness sectors.

"I want to have an opponent in the second round, I hope my opponent is Lula da Silva, because I want to look him in the eye and ask why there is a general collapse in commerce, a general collapse in agriculture, why 82% of families are in debt. And they, and 40% of these families, at least in the last 10 years, have not gotten out of the quagmire. Of course, they pay 3% to 4% interest per month to finance themselves. Out there it is 3% 4% per year. This is a financial crime in any country in the world", he stated.

In the second round simulation carried out by Quaest, Cury appears in a scenario of direct competition against the re-election of the current president, scoring 34% against 40% for Lula.

The writer has his most expressive performance among independent voters, those who say they are neither left nor right. He numerically leads the segment with 24% of the votes, ahead of Lula (23%) and Flávio Bolsonaro (11%).

Who is Augusto Cury

At 68 years old and making his election debut, Augusto Cury gained ground in the race for the Presidency and is, at the moment, the best positioned candidate among those trying to break the polarization between Lula (PT) and Flávio Bolsonaro (PL). The presidential project now underway had a rehearsal in 2009, by the Green Party (PV), but it did not come to fruition.

Cury became known as a best-selling self-help author, a label he rejects. "This label is small. I have nothing to do with self-help", he told the newspaper "O Globo", in 2020.

He graduated in medicine, worked as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist and also became a businessman.

He declared assets worth R$242 million to the Electoral Court, distributed among properties, business interests, shares, investment funds, credits and bank balances.

Born in Colina, in the interior of São Paulo, the writer presents himself as an outsider in relation to the other candidates for president. However, politics is not exactly new to his career.

In politics, an outsider is someone who enters the electoral dispute without a consolidated career in public office, parties or traditional politics. In general, it presents itself as an alternative to professional politicians and the established system.

In addition to having grown up in a family in which his father served five terms as a councilor in Colina, Cury became closer to this universe 17 years ago. In 2009, he joined the Green Party (PV), which considered launching him as a candidate for president in the following year's elections.
