Mingkeng Village, Gaoping Town, Suichuan County, Jiangxi Province, is surrounded by mountains.
In the early morning of the 5th, sudden mudslides and landslides broke the tranquility of the village. Transportation, electricity, and communications were interrupted, and Mingkeng Village became an "isolated village" for a time. So far, the disaster has killed 3 people and left 9 people missing in Mingkeng Village.
Mingkeng Village is located at the junction of Shangyou County, Suichuan County in Jiangxi Province and Guidong County in Hunan Province, about 80 kilometers away from Suichuan County. The disaster affects people's hearts, and rescue forces from all sides respond to the order and head towards danger.
After receiving the order, China Aneng Second Engineering Bureau rushed to the rescue with 80 rescue personnel and 45 sets of equipment. However, the road from Suichuan County to Gaoping Town is blocked by multiple collapses, and the risk of landslides is extremely high.
"If the road is blocked, the search and rescue equipment cannot get in." said Wan Qiang, the on-site commander of China Aneng No. 2 Bureau. That night, the bright light of the lighting truck pierced the darkness of the mountainous area. After more than ten hours of fierce fighting, at 1:30 a.m. on the 6th, the entire road from Tanghu Town in Suichuan County to Mingkeng Village in Gaoping Town was cleared.
In the early morning of the 6th, reporters followed the rescue team and advanced on foot towards the Shixia Group in Mingkeng Village. The road into the village was completely destroyed, and some sections required climbing with hands and feet. In one section, one had to use ropes to climb up a hillside only a few dozen centimeters wide. Rescuers from armed police, firefighting, China Security and Emergency Response Units, armed with radar life detectors, demolition tools, drones and search and rescue dogs, raced against time to enter the core area of the disaster.
The reporter followed the rescuers on a one or two kilometer mountain road, but it took more than an hour of trekking to reach the core area of the disaster. Rescue workers inspected the site and found that the working surface that had just been excavated the day before was re-buried by the soil from the overnight landslide. Only half an hour later, monitoring revealed that another landslide might occur at the rescue site, and all rescuers immediately retreated to a safe area.
Professional and technical forces from the natural resources departments of Jiangxi Province and Ji'an City provided on-site guidance, using slope radar and other equipment to conduct all-weather monitoring and early warning of surrounding mountains and rivers, and set up warning areas to prevent secondary disasters.
"Nearly 150 geological technicians are on site and have deployed more than 200 sets of various portable monitoring equipment to provide professional support for geological disaster emergency rescue work." Chu Xiaodong, deputy director of the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Geological Survey and Exploration, said that as of noon on the 6th, according to drone modeling calculations, the landslide body still has about 54,000 cubic meters of residual hidden danger volume. The geological technical team will continue to carry out dynamic monitoring and research and judgment.
Starting at 7 a.m. on the 6th, three excavators and two loaders arrived about 1.2 kilometers away from the core area to carry out dredging operations. As of 16:00, the rescue operation section had advanced by more than 100 meters. In areas where large equipment cannot enter, rescuers use shovels, shovels and other tools to dig; the road is slippery and muddy and difficult to navigate, so rescuers tie safety ropes to trees and hold on to the ropes as they move deeper step by step.
At present, a total of more than 640 rescuers have arrived at the scene to carry out search and rescue work. Road traffic in Mingkeng Village has basically been restored, and communication signals have been connected. Luo Gang, secretary of the Suichuan County Party Committee, said that the local area will make every effort to search and rescue the missing people, treat the injured, resettle the affected people, and deal with the aftermath of the victims, and continue to open up life rescue channels.
The reporter learned that all the people affected by the disaster in Mingkeng Village have been moved to a B&B in Wuzhifeng Township, Shangyou County, and nearly 200 people have been placed there. The local area has been equipped with professional medical teams to provide on-site support, and living supplies have been arriving one after another since the evening of the 5th.
As of 18:00 on the 6th, Suichuan County has evacuated 11,968 people and distributed a total of more than 7,000 pieces of life jackets, life ropes, folding beds, blankets and other relief materials, and the remaining materials are being distributed.
