Tsering Dorje: The old squad leader who protects the safety of his comrades

At the search and rescue site at the Jilong Port, on the muddy and rocky beach, armed police officers and soldiers wielded shovels to launch search and rescue operations.

In the team, a soldier stood on a high place, staring at the mountains on both sides, always monitoring the danger of falling rocks. Once he discovers the risk of collapse or rolling rocks, he will immediately blow the whistle to remind his comrades to evacuate urgently.

He is Tsering Dorje.

He is both a front-line search and rescue team member and a safety observer of the search and rescue team, protecting the lives of his comrades around him.

Turn the time back to 2015.

Tsering Dorje, 23 years old at the time, was still a public security border guard. The 8.1-magnitude earthquake in Nepal affected Geelong, causing serious damage to the local area. During that earthquake relief operation, his comrades fighting side by side rescued two trapped people from the rubble; Tsering Dorje devoted all his efforts to resettlement support and continued to fight hard to build tents to provide shelter for the affected people.

As time goes by for 11 years, the young soldiers of the past have grown into experienced senior squad leaders.

When the mudslide swallowed up the Geelong Port, disaster struck again, and he once again stood at the devastated disaster scene. In addition to participating in front-line search and rescue, he also assumes the responsibility of monitoring and early warning of dangerous situations, becoming the team's "eyes" for disaster situations.

Few people know that this calm and resolute old squad leader has a heavy concern in his heart.

After the disaster, Tsering Dorje immediately tried to contact four friends working at the Gyirong Port. But after the news was sent out, nothing happened, and there is still no news.

There are still photos of them in Tsering Dorje’s mobile phone album. When he looked through it during the break, his eyes couldn't help but turn red. They originally agreed to have a meal together during the Mid-Autumn Festival this year.

But the responsibility was placed on his shoulders, and he chose to suppress his grief in his heart.

"I cannot bring my personal emotions to the rescue front line. My comrades entrust their backs to me, and I must live up to this trust."

The huge grief was silently transformed by him into the power to protect his comrades and save lives. The Mid-Autumn Festival that he couldn't keep an appointment became an unforgettable regret in his heart.

Tsering Dorje is the epitome of countless officers and soldiers fighting on the front line of rescue.

Between the plateau and canyons, there are mudflats mixed with mud and rocks at your feet, and cliffs above your head that may fall at any time. The rescue officers and soldiers worked hard to open the damaged passage and will never stop search and rescue as long as there is still a glimmer of hope.
