Doctor is killed by partner in Maringá; suspect confesses crime to family member

The murder of doctor Gassi Mazia, aged 37, was reported to the Military Police (PM-PR) by a family member of João Vitor Domingues Romeiro, aged 25, who heard him confess to having committed feminicide.

The crime took place in Maringá, in the North of Paraná, on Saturday night (5). On Sunday (6), João Vitor's preventive arrest was ordered. João Vitor's defense said that it will only comment on the case from Tuesday (8).

g1 chose not to disclose the name of João Vitor's family member to preserve the identity of the witness.

In a statement to the Civil Police (PC-PR), the witness explained that, on Saturday night, João sent messages asking if she was in Mandaguari, 32 kilometers away from Maringá. Then, he called his family member and asked for her home address. Until then, no one knew about the doctor's death.

Upon arrival, he parked the car in the property's courtyard and, still inside the vehicle, told the woman that he had murdered Gassi.

"He told me that he and Gassi had fought and that he had killed her", said the witness in a statement to the police.

Upon learning of the case, the family contacted the PM and called the Integrated Emergency Trauma Care Service (Siate), because João had injuries to the neck region.

After the arrival of the police, the husband was arrested for the crime of feminicide and was admitted to a hospital under police escort.

Body was later found

After the Mandaguari Military Police arrested João Vitor red-handed, a team from Maringá went to the apartment where the victim lived.

The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was already at the scene and had confirmed the woman's death.

Gassi's body had first been found by another family member who found out about the murder and went to the address. He was also the one who found the couple's eight-month-old son, left alone in the property where the crime took place.

According to the police report, there were three knives next to the doctor's body. Deputy Adriano Garcia reported that the victim appeared to have approximately 10 marks of blows.

The burial took place on Monday morning (7).
