Dog Jean Pierre dies after rescue from macrodrainage gallery in Balneário Camboriú

The dog that had to be rescued by firefighters after falling into the macrodrainage gallery died on Monday (7), informed the City Hall of Balneário Camboriú, the city on the North Coast of Santa Catarina where the accident occurred. The fall was on Sunday (6).

The dog, named Jean Pierre, fell into an opening in Praia Central. In a note, the municipality lamented the death and reinforced the importance of respecting the construction site's safety barriers (read the full note at the end of the report).

Lifeguards entered the gallery to rescue

The gallery where the dog fell is difficult to access and contains water. The opening in the sand is about 1 square meter.

For the rescue, two lifeguards entered the gallery. It was found that the depth was around 1.70 meters and the water had a slight current.

The lifeguards followed the direction of the current and, after 10 minutes of searching, found the dog, which was about 60 meters from the opening of the gallery where it had fallen.

With a ladder, the lifeguards left the structure, bringing the dog. The animal was very tired and was unable to stand.

The dog was dried with cloths to keep him warm, and his health improved. Afterwards, he was handed over to his owner, who agreed to take him to a veterinarian.

The municipality said that, despite the place being fenced, the dog managed to overcome the barriers and ended up falling.

The city hall also highlighted the importance of respecting the safety barriers at construction sites. "These structures must not be broken, removed or damaged. Violation or depredation of the barriers, in addition to putting people and animals at risk."

The City of Balneário Camboriú regrets, with regret, the death of the dog Jean Pierre, confirmed this Monday (7). The animal did not survive after falling, this Sunday (6), into an opening in the macro-drainage gallery on the sand strip of Praia Central.

Shortly after the incident, the Department of Planning and Urban Development contacted the company responsible for carrying out the work, which has already taken the necessary measures to reinforce security in the areas that remain under intervention.

Furthermore, as already informed this Sunday, the company had already been formally notified to complete the remaining services, and, after deadlines were not met, the Public Administration adopted appropriate administrative measures to penalize the company.

The municipality offers solidarity to the bereaved family and reinforces the importance of respecting the construction site's safety barriers, which are designed to prevent access to the intervention areas and protect the population. These structures must not be broken, removed or damaged. Violation or vandalism of barriers, in addition to putting people and animals at risk, can generate liability.
