US and allies complete Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq

The United States and allied forces have officially ended Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq against the Islamic State terrorist organization, the Pentagon said.

"Today, the United States and our coalition partners officially ended Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq... This milestone reflects the success of the 12-year campaign that defeated ISIS as an organized military threat in Iraq and throughout the region," Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement.

It notes that although ensuring security in the region now falls on the Iraqi armed forces, the United States will continue to provide the country with limited assistance in military training and intelligence transfer.
