50 districts declared disaster areas in Bangkok due to severe floods

According to the Bangkok Post newspaper, Bangkok Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Tavida Kamolvej stated in her statement that heavy rains brought by low pressure from the Gulf of Thailand caused floods in the districts in the east of the city.

Kamolvej stated that many neighborhoods were flooded and thousands of people were transferred to the evacuation center.

Noting that a total of 700 thousand people were affected by the flood, Kamolvej said, "We need hundreds of thousands of bottles of drinking water right now." he said.

Bangkok Mayor Chadchart Sittipunt also said in his press statement that the evacuation of flood waters is continuing and the water levels in the canals are expected to decrease.

Sittipunt said, "The water in the settlements will be withdrawn slowly because the level in the channels must first drop. Pumps will be installed in the settlements in low-lying areas to accelerate the evacuation." he said.

Bangkok Metropolitan Municipality declared all 50 districts of the city a disaster area due to floods and called for donations of food and drinking water.

Meteorological officials also shared the information that 320 kilograms of precipitation per square meter has fallen in Bangkok due to the heavy rain since September 24.
