Barrack described Erdogan-Trump relationship as 'getting along very well'

Barrack answered questions from members of the press in front of the Turkevi in ​​New York, where he was present as part of the 81st UN General Assembly.

Asked how the short meeting between Erdoğan and Trump at the dinner held within the scope of UN events went, Barrack said, "It's great, they have incredible respect for each other as leaders, but more importantly, there is harmony between them." he said.

Barrack stated that although Erdoğan and Trump come from different cultures, they are very similar to each other and said, "That's why they make things very easy for me between the two countries, because they communicate very well and effectively." he said.

Stating that Turkey is a great friend of the USA in very difficult moments when things are tense, Barrack said, "(At such times) you understand who your real friends are, and Turkey has become a great friend of America." he said.

When asked why Erdoğan and Trump did not have bilateral meetings during the UN week, Barrack said, "They already meet frequently in the midst of this confusion and sensitivity in the region. That's why there were not many new issues to be discussed. This is an ongoing situation." he said.

"The two leaders get along very well with each other"

Asked if there was a new development in relations between Turkey and the USA, Barrack said, "It has never been this good. The two leaders get along very well with each other. They love each other, which really helps." he replied.

Regarding the S-400 and F-35 issue, which is on the table between the two countries, Barrack stated that Congress is working on this issue, but that the regulations of the Combating America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) are taking time.

On the other hand, Barrack emphasized that the defense cooperation between Türkiye and the USA is very important and said, "It is the second biggest ally of NATO. We have great confidence in Turkey for all kinds of regional alliances." he said.

"I think everyone is ready for US-Iran peace"

Barrack pointed out that they are taking steps towards dialogue and communication at every opportunity regarding the ongoing peace talks between the USA and Iran, and said, "We are having more meetings, which is the right thing for all of us." he said.

"Türkiye has been very instrumental in this process, they have a great relationship with both sides and they understand the culture, so we are hopeful. But this is a process, not just an event." Using his expressions, Barrack underlined that it is necessary to be optimistic to end the war.

"We have no choice. I think everyone is ready. The region is ready. America is ready to help with peace," Barrack said. he said.
