President Erdoğan met with the leaders of Iraq, Armenia and Ukraine in New York

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in New York to attend the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), continues his diplomatic contacts and busy schedule.

MEETS WITH IRAQI PRIME MINISTER AZ-ZEYDI

In this context, President Erdoğan met with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali ez-Zeydi at the Turkish House. Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Commerce Ömer Bolat, MİT President İbrahim Kalın, Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, Presidential Foreign Policy and Security Chief Advisor Akif Çağatay Kılıç and Presidential Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün were also present at the reception, which was closed to the press.

The Directorate of Communications made a statement regarding the meeting; Meeting in New York on September 23, 2026, the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Ali Zeydi, declared their common will on the following issues. During the meetings in which the Turkish and Iraqi authorities discussed all aspects of the strategic relations between the two countries, the parties agreed to deepen cooperation in the field of security; In this context, they agreed to fully establish state authority in Sinjar and put an end to the presence of banned foreign armed elements. Within the framework of the progress made by Iraq in these security practices; In line with the agreed mechanism and timeline, Turkish forces will gradually hand over the Bashiqa-Zilkan campus to the Iraqi Federal Government. The parties also agreed on expanding the bilateral trade and investment volume, immediately putting the signed agreements into practice and accelerating joint strategic projects, especially the Development Road Project.

President Erdoğan also received Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan was also present at the reception, which was closed to the press.

Continuing his contacts in New York, President Erdoğan met with many leaders from around the world and exchanged ideas within the scope of the UN General Assembly week. Erdoğan, who met with the leaders of countries such as Japan, England and Poland and many of his counterparts, especially the Emir of Qatar, emphasized Turkey's constructive role in solving international issues. President Erdoğan also once again demonstrated his effectiveness in regional diplomacy with his contacts at the Gulf States Council organized by Donald Trump.

In this meeting, which is of great importance in terms of opening up the Turkish economy and attracting direct investment, Turkey's investment environment and the opportunities it offers are expected to be discussed.

President Erdoğan, who made important warnings about crises and global conflicts in his General Assembly address yesterday, will attend the session themed on combating climate change today. At this event, which is considered as a part of the preparation process for the climate summit to be hosted by Turkey in November, Erdoğan is expected to give critical messages on environmental policies, sustainability and the future of young people.

The finale of Erdoğan's New York program will take place with a meeting with citizens. Unlike previous years, President Erdoğan, who prefers to meet with the Turkish community at the end of his program, will attend a special event to be held at Gotham Hall.
