A fire broke out in the sauna section of the gym in Gültepe District on the evening of August 30. Upon notice, fire brigade, AFAD, UMKE and police teams were dispatched to the address. A total of 12 people, 3 of whom were seriously injured, were hospitalized after the fire was brought under control. Among the injured, Şanzime Sarıgül (44), Emine Yani (42) and mother of two children, lawyer Gülsüm Öztekin Tunç (43), lost their lives. It was learned that Sarıgül and Yani worked at the Children's Homes Site affiliated with the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services. After the autopsy, the bodies were handed over to their relatives and buried.
Within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 2 business officials and 3 employees were detained. After being processed at the police station, 2 business officials who were referred to the courthouse were arrested, and 3 employees were released, 1 of whom was under judicial control.
MINISTER ŞİMŞEK ATTENDED THE FUNERAL
It was learned that Emine Yani, one of those who lost their lives in the fire, was the daughter of Ahmet Şimşek, the elder brother of the Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek. Minister Şimşek came to the city on September 1 and attended the condolences at the Necat Nasıroğlu Complex. On the same day, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, who came to the city for various programs, visited the family with Batman Governor Ekrem Canalp and AK Party Provincial Chairman Hüseyin Şansi and expressed his condolences.
Batman Bar Association President Abdulhamit Çakan stated that the investigation is continuing in all its aspects and said, "A fire broke out in the sports center, which has a sauna, bathhouse and pool in our Batman city. Following the fire, we lost 3 of our citizens. One of them was a colleague we loved very much. We lost our colleague, who was only young and had 2 children, in the incident. There were also injuries. There were also people who were evacuated. Then, an investigation was launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the gym. As a result of this investigation, it was thought that there was negligence." "Two people were arrested and sent to prison. The investigation into this incident continues in all its aspects. We are in constant contact with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on this matter," he said.

Stating that the fire broke out in the electrical panel near the gym's sauna, Çakan said, "We are aware that there is a chain of negligence. However, reports about this usually emerge towards the end of the investigation. What negligence is involved in the incident? What kind of negligence is there? Who is negligent? It will be clear in all its aspects. However, the information we have now quickly obtained is that, yes, there is a chain of negligence in the incident. However, the extent of it will be revealed at the end of the investigation. We, as the Batman Bar Association, together with the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, will continue until the end." "We will follow up on the incident. According to the information we have obtained, a fire started around the first sauna. According to the information we obtained from the investigation file, all three of our citizens died due to smoke poisoning. There was no death or serious injury due to burns."
