Russia carried out an air strike on the route used by Boris Johnson and European officials

It has been reported that Russia carried out an air strike on the route used by former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Europe's top security officials on their way back after a conference in Ukraine's capital, Kiev.

According to Ukrainian officials, shortly after the train carrying Johnson, British National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell and other senior European officials left the Yahodyn station on the Ukraine-Poland border, a jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was attacked on the locomotive of another train at the station. It was stated that there was no loss of life or injury in the attack. Officials announced that all European diplomats were safe.

'THE TRAIN WITH DIPLOMATS WAS TARGETED'

Ukraine-based railway company Ukrzaliznytsia argued that the attack may have directly targeted the train with the diplomatic delegation coming from Europe. Company officials announced that due to intense attack threats from Russia, the timing of the train services was changed and the train in question left the station earlier than planned. According to officials, people on the train were ordered to evacuate about 15 minutes before the attack. It was stated that the attack took place approximately 2 kilometers from the Ukrainian-Polish border. Ukrainian officials also reported that David Petraeus, former Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), was on a different train at the same station at the time of the attack.

'PUTIN'S LOGIC IS DISTORTED'

Boris Johnson criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin in his statement on his social media account after the attack. "I don't know what twisted logic led Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive on the Polish border this morning," Johnson said.

Saying that the attack was an example of the "random and senseless attacks" that Ukrainians are exposed to every day, Johnson said that even civilian railway lines were targeted. Johnson also blamed Putin for the deaths of Ukrainian railway workers and called on Kiev's allies to urgently provide Ukraine with the air defense systems it needs.

POLISH PRIME MINISTER TUSK HELD AN EMERGENCY MEETING

The fact that the attack took place so close to the Ukrainian-Polish border also caused alarm in Poland. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk held an emergency meeting following the developments. In his statement regarding the incident, Tusk said, "The intensification of the actions carried out by Russia is becoming a reality and it is getting closer and closer to our border."

'RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE WAS TARGETED'

In the statement made by Russia, it was stated that there was an attack on Ukraine's railway infrastructure. In Moscow's statement, there was no statement that the train on which the European delegation was traveling was specifically targeted.
