National athletes are in the semi-finals of the European Boxing Championship held in Bulgaria

At the 2026 European Boxing Championship in Bulgaria, national athletes Semih Gümüş and Emrah Yaşar reached the semi-finals and guaranteed to receive the medal.

Semih Gümüş, who entered the ring in the men's 55 kilo category, faced Kosovo's Bashkim Bajoku in the organization held at the Asics Arena in the capital Sofia.

The national boxer performed well against his opponent and won the match 5-0 and made it to the semi-finals.

Semih Gümüş, who is guaranteed to win his first adult medal at the European Championship, will face British Abdul Burton in the semi-finals on Thursday, September 24.

"STAND BY FOR GOLD"

Stating that they have been in the camp for a long time, Semih Gümüş said, "We are far from our family and home. We made a lot of sacrifices. Sometimes we went to bed hungry and sometimes thirsty. I couldn't sleep last night because of the stress of the match, I couldn't rest this morning. But this is my first senior championship. I played three matches in total. I reached the semi-finals by beating my better opponents. I am very proud. From now on, stay tuned for the gold."

Thanking the President of the Turkish Boxing Federation, Suat Hekimoğlu, his coaches and those who supported him, the national athlete concluded his words by saying, "My opponent in today's competition was good and experienced. I won with a good victory. From now on, I will fight hard for the gold, I will believe in myself. I hope I will present my championship and my medal to the Turkish nation. It is the color of the medal."

"WE WILL LEAVE HERE WITH A GOLD MEDAL"

Competing in the men's 90 kilo category, Emrah Yaşar also faced Moldovan Andrei Zaplitnii in the quarter-finals.

Winning the match 5-0, Emrah advanced to the semi-finals and secured the first European medal of his career in the majors.

The national boxer will face German Kevin Lebowski in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Stating that it was his second match in the organization, Emrah Yaşar said, "Thankfully, we qualified and guaranteed the semi-finals. It is a great feeling. We worked together. I would like to thank our president Suat Hekimoğlu. He did not leave us alone. I came this far. God willing, we will leave here with the gold medal."
