Federal police arrest internationally wanted couple at the German-Dutch border

Federal police have arrested a couple wanted internationally on an arrest warrant at the German-Dutch border near Bad Bentheim. The 31-year-old and the 29-year-old are suspected of torturing, beating and strangling another person to the point of death, the federal police announced on Monday. The justice system in Slovenia was therefore looking for the two Croatian nationals.

Civil investigators from the Federal Police stopped and checked the car in which the couple was traveling on a federal highway in the municipality of Isterberg ( Grafschaft Bentheim district ) early on Friday evening. When checking the personal details, the officers discovered that there was a European arrest warrant against the man and woman. The two are accused of common grievous bodily harm and intentional homicide. The federal police did not provide any details about the case.

Delivery planned

The 31-year-old and the 29-year-old were initially taken into police custody. On Saturday, a district judge issued a temporary detention order. The Oldenburg Public Prosecutor's Office is now conducting extradition proceedings to Slovenia. The two are now in a correctional facility.

Because the officers discovered that the license plates on the couple's car originally belonged to another vehicle and because the 31-year-old could not produce a valid driver's license, further proceedings were initiated. The car was confiscated.
