The former head of the CBA, Andrzej Stróżny, was charged

Andrzej Stróżny headed the Central Anticorruption Bureau in 2020-23. According to his lawyer Bartosz Lewandowski, he agrees to giving his name.

On Monday, at the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, Stróżny was charged with abuse of powers by an officer in connection with using the CBA underground premises for non-business purposes. The premises were to be used in this way in the years 2020-2023.

In July 2024, the Warsaw district prosecutor's office initiated an investigation into the purchase of an apartment for Stróżny by the CBA. According to the notification submitted by the then management of the service, the premises were to cost over PLN 1.2 million.

The suspect did not admit to committing the acts he was accused of, provided extensive explanations and declared that he would provide additional explanations at a later stage of the investigation, after reviewing the evidence, the prosecutor's office said.

"We will defend ourselves"

"They hit hard, but I will stand. I thank all my loved ones for their support. I feel the understanding and strong support of the service people. This is very important to me. Don't lose heart! Don't let go of the wickedness! We will defend ourselves," wrote Andrzej Stróżny on the X platform.

The guard repeated on the X platform that he did not admit to the crimes he was accused of. He stated that they were "completely devoid of any factual or legal basis."

"Any claims that I acted in order to obtain material or personal benefits through the unlawful use of operational premises constitute unfair manipulation, untruth, slander and prove complete ignorance of the realities of the functioning of secret services," he wrote.

Stróżny writes about a political assignment

He called the prosecutor's action "fulfillment of a political order."

He stated that the allegations are "generated from slander and slander dictated by the lowest motives" and directly attack his "honesty, dignity as an officer and many years of service to the state" as a soldier of the Polish Army, a police officer, the Internal Security Agency and the Central Anticorruption Bureau.

He stated that not only did he not harm the CBA, but his decisions led to "measurable and significant savings for the state budget, which was undoubtedly demonstrated during the activities."

"As the head of the CBA, in order to save costs on the part of the service, I did not decide on the costly use of a rented residential premises, for which I would receive full compensation in accordance with applicable law, and I decided on a practically cost-free use of the service's resources, which was possible after analyzing the regulations and consulting the relevant subordinate organizational units," he wrote.

The guard also pointed out that it was decided to present the charges "with the blatant omission of hearing the key witnesses who are the only ones who have full and actual knowledge that disproves the slander."
