Damascus believes that Netanyahu is trying to drag it into a confrontation and is making international contacts to contain the escalation

The newspaper quoted an informed Syrian source as saying that Damascus believes that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to drag Syria into a confrontation for which it is not prepared, while the country does not have the necessary resources to fight a new war after years of conflict and destruction.

The source added that Damascus is closely monitoring developments and maintains regular contacts with the United States and France and conveys to them developments in the situation on the ground in the context of its efforts to reduce escalation.

According to the newspaper, Syria has expressed its willingness to strengthen its efforts against Hezbollah and ISIS cells in the south, and has also shown openness to reaching new security arrangements with Israel or amending the existing arrangements since the 1974 separation of forces agreement, with the aim of preventing a slide into a new military confrontation.

A few days ago, Israel carried out a dangerous and unprecedented escalation since the fall of the Assad regime, by targeting the Abu al-Duhur military airport in the Idlib countryside, not far from the Turkish border, under the pretext of the Turks bringing military equipment into the airport that threatens Israel’s security.

Reuters revealed a phone call between the head of the Israeli Mossad and the Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, before the Israeli raids that destroyed the airport's runways, without the Syrian Foreign Minister's clarification that there was no Turkish presence at the airport in order to avoid bombing it.

Israel publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, noting that there was an international agreement that preceded the overthrow of Assad a short time ago, in which Turkey and Israel participated and through which the borders of control within Syria were drawn, which Turkey bypassed with the approval of Damascus, as Israel says.
