The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about a new fraud scheme using SNILS and work data

Fraudsters can use information about the place of work and SNILS number of victims in deception schemes. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs warned the attackers about this trick, TASS reports the words of the department.

“Data about the place of work is actively used in scenarios with fake work chats, and the SNILS number can become a reason to inform the victim about “compromised accounts,” the ministry said. The scammers who have obtained this data tell the person that he is suspected of financing terrorists. Next, the attackers contact the victim on behalf of law enforcement officers and convince her to transfer cash to the courier under the pretext of declaring the funds.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs added that data that seems insignificant can be used by attackers to create a digital portrait of a person and organize a targeted attack.
